So you can come in and try out the bike of your dreams! We will also be taking deposits on the demos, so when we are done with them, you can get an EXCELLENT DEAL!

PAST EVENTS:

56th Annual GVMC Routledge Run:
The organizers gave road riders a choice of three routes to get to the Princeton Castle Resort Resort on Saturday, July 17, depending on how long they wanted to be in the saddle. With a scoring system based on points for towns visited and route questions deciphered, total available points were the same for all three routes, levelling the field for everyone who thought it would be fun to bring home a souvenir trophy. Most riders opted for the middle route, about 500km, which featured some great Destination Highways in blue sky weather. Those wanting a little more of the low-traffic, backroads twisties took on the long route, over 800km, including a section of smooth gravel going into Tulameen.

The dual sporters had two routes, one for Adventure Bikes like KLR’s and big BMW’s, and a Tough Enough course for trail worthy bikes. Both routes were in the 340km range and had a lot of fast gravel and jeep track, with the Tough Enough guys doing some washed out powerline and ATV trails to keep it interesting. Most dual sporters started in Agassiz, to skip 82km of blacktop and get into the entertaining stuff sooner. The last Dual Sport riders rolled in as dinner was being served from 6:00-7:00 pm, proof of a long and dusty day in the saddle.

The Princeton Castle Resort was a great site for the event, with varied accommodation available, shady trees and a social area around a fire pit in the campground. Cruisers, sport riders, dirt bikers and Adventure bike riders shared stories and a few cold ones in a relaxed, small group atmosphere. Pete Grundy won First Place Dual Sport, with Mark Gray receiving the First Place Road trophy.

Once again, if you weren’t there, you missed a good one.

5th Annual GVMC Circle Tour
Circle Tour V took place on June 25,26 and 27, 2010.We based ouselves at the Bonaparte Motel in Cache Creek, B.C. The motel was not bad for the price. Arrivals on Friday were staggered and those of us that were early went for a Chinese Buffet Dinner and we all met in the courtyard of the motel for beverages and a chit chat.

The actual tour took place on Saturday, June 26, 2010. The riders left the motel and headed for Lillooet but were not to go into Lillooet proper but to continue on to Lytton. At Lytton ( where the Thompson River and the Fraser River meet) they proceeded onto Hiway 1 North to Spences Bridge where they turned off to Merritt. After fuel and refreshments in Merritt they followed Hiway 5A (Old Kamloops Hiway) to just south of Kamloops where they veered away from Kamloops and headed for Lac La Jeune and Logan Lake. Following the Hiway to Ashcroft they passed by Highland Valley Copper which covers over 300 square miles including the Tailings ponds. Returning to Cache creek and after having a swim or sauna it was off to The Bear's Claw Lodge for dinner. Not too bad for food. The weather all weekend was fantastic (28Deg C) and sunny. All in all a good time was had by all 28 people in attendance.

See You Next Year for Whidby Island.

61st Annual Piston Run
Build it and they will come. They built a challenging race course at Chipmunk Creek, and yes, by golly, 115 dirt bikers did come. It was the 61st running of this annual event, widely known for its technical yet rideable course. This year, it was a 37 km loop of gnarly trails, a section of wide open gravel road, and all the mud, roots and rocks you’d care to beat your motorcycle against in a frantic few hours. Making it particularly memorable were the numerous bridges, and sections of narrow sidehill where one footpeg was scraping the bank while the other hung over a minimum 100 meter slide into the unknown.

It rained all week, and rain is traditionally on the menu for race day, but there was only an occasional light misting. The trails were plenty wet though, and the unfortunate three riders who broke their front fenders looked like they’d been swimming in quicksand. Only the whites of their eyes showed through a wall of mud, and then they grinned and teeth flashed through the spa treatment. There were a number of flat tires as riders gambled on less tire pressure for better traction, and ended up pinching a tube on sharp rocks at high speed. One racer who discovered his rear tire was turning on the rim (his single rimlock wasn’t cranked quite tight enough), borrowed some rope and finished the event with shredded strands knotted around his spokes and between the knobs of his tire.

The Masters Class is where you find the fastest and most well conditioned athletes. Bobby Prochnau of Savona, who won the event in 2007, returned to record a convincing first place victory, finishing 20 minutes ahead of second place Geoff Nelson after 3 ½ hours. Jarrett May, who won the Overall as an Expert in 2008 (starting on a line behind the Masters, then beating them all), took third. For complete results, check out www.pnwma.com

Thanks once again to Daytona Motorsports and Yamaha Canada for the two-colour souvenir mugs (given to the first 100 who signed up), to the many businesses who donated materials, and to the many cheerful volunteers who made it a safe and fun event.

Who knows, they may even do it again next year!

18th Annual GVMC Gord Heppler Memorial Run
The 18th Annual GVMC Gord Heppler Memorial Run held on Sunday May 16, 2010 was a great success. For the third year in a row, we were the recipients of gorgeous sunny weather. The predicted rain may have scared off some riders but even so the 108 riders, 31 passengers, and 4 drivers had a very pleasant day. Again many said that this year's route took them to areas that they had never been before. With riders, passengers, drivers, non-riding participants and helpers there were about 188 people in attendance at the Run. We again had a breakfast, a Ride, a barbecue, silent auction, raffle, and draws for prizes. At the final presentations people from other Clubs promoted their events. Kitty Cheung, a Philanthropy Officer for B.C. Children's Hospital expressed the Hospital's gratitude to the crowd. Thanks to everyone who attended, our terrific sponsors and people who donated without attending we had a very successful event for B.C. Children's Hospital.

Jackie Heppler wishes to thank all of her incredible helpers: the checkers who did a terrific job of processing so many participants, the food crew, the set up crew the day before the event, the people who sold raffle tickets, the people who got sponsors for prizes and silent auction items, those who looked after the silent auction at the event, the chefs for the pancake breakfast and barbecue, and the incredible clean up crew at the end of the event who had us packed up with such efficiency we were done in no time. What an amazing group of people!! This event couldn't happen without you.

Our total dollars raised at the 18th Annual Gord Heppler Memorial Run for B.C. Children's Hospital for Kid's With Cancer was again a very noteworthy sum. The Greater Vancouver Motorcycle Club presented a cheque on the Children's Hospital Miracle Telethon for $17,864.71 on Sunday June 6, 2010. To date we have raised $124,939.88 in 18 years for B.C. Children's Hospital for Kids with Cancer in memory of Gord Heppler. Check under Past Events for a full report including ride winners, raffle winners, and sponsors. Check in the Photo Gallery for pictures of the event.
