This event was started in 1954, dedicated to Bob Routledge, a respected motorcycle mechanic and one of the signers of the 1939 GVMC incorporation. The original perpetual trophy features a pewter figure of a German army dispatch rider on a BMW. This may have been a souvenir brought back by returning soldiers after World War II, but itís exact origin and significance is a mystery.
Traditionally, the event was held as a Saturday ride to a campground, with a field meet on Sunday. Field meets involved tests of rider skill, such as riding a length of 2x4, throwing darts from a moving bike, rolling a barrel with the front wheel, a slow race (last one across the finish line wins, touch a foot down youíre out), and any other crowd pleasing stunts the organizers could dream up.
The field meets gradually lost their appeal, and with the rise in dual sport riding, the event was given a fresh approach. The Routledge Run has in recent years been successful as a two-day ride, with street riders and dual sport riders taking separate routes to an overnight campout. The camaraderie and good times continue.

2014 60th Annual GVMC Routledge Run
The 60th Annual Routledge run saw the second year of a slight change in format. We have eliminated the A/B routes for the small DualSport bikes and are focused on the bigger adventure touring DS bike rider and the Road rider.
This year we started from Logan lake BC at the Copper Valley Resort and saw the dualsport riders enjoy a day of nice gravel roads and fabulous views. The route went through the east side of Hwy 1 and the Fraser River through the Deadman/Vidette Road to Tranquille, East Kamloops and Westwold to Douglas Lake and Merritt. Almost 500K in total with various out options for those who needed options.
The Road Ride looped through Merritt, Hwy 97 to Kelowna, Falkland and Kamloops then Cache Creek and back with various smoke filled roads from the recent fires in the area.
We supplied a very nice T-shirt, three meals and prizes for everyone. Over all 32 participants thoroughly enjoyed themselves and many are eager for next year. Better book soon!
The 2015 Routledge is slated for the Oliver BC area and accommodations at the Maple Leaf Motel and RV Resort in Oliver are set for July 17-19, 2015. The DS and Road Routes are 90% planned with a few minor adjustments to come. We will be hosting a Friday night campfire Meet n greet with refreshments where you can fill out your registration, pick up your T- shirt and where we will provide meal info. Saturday after the ride we will have a dinner BBQ at the Maple Leaf Resort with Steak or Chicken as your choices and a campfire later.
Payment options are as always cash paid directly to Wes Jamison at the GVMC clubhouse #307-9785 192nd Street, Surrey or cheque payable to the GVMC mailed to the clubhouse addressed to Wes Jamison at Box 12 Milner BC V0X 1T0 or by Paypal though our website www.gvmc.ca . If you are from out of town paypal is the best and once you have paid we will collect your registration waiver on the Friday night in Oliver at the Maple Leaf.
Saturday morning we will have a Rider's Meeting at 7:30 AM.
There will be more details with contact numbers etc forthcoming in the new year. Stay tuned. See you in 2015!
