Event Comments:

The trails were groomed, the arrows up and the sun was shining, it was a perfect day for a ride. Eighty-six eager riders came out on Sunday to test their skills on the trails. There were three courses this year, a two km loop that the kids rode five times, drawing a poker card after each loop, a short eight km loop for anyone who was not ready to test their endurance or just wanted to work on their style and form and the main loop that runs the gamut from B to A+, about fifty km of gnarly mountain terrain and trails, some of them only rideable in high Summer and taking in some of the most spectacular views anywhere. All in all there was something suitable for every riding level.

The day progressed without any major incidents and there were no injuries. One rider gave us a jump start on a new trail for next year's ride when he made a wrong turn and went over an embankment. He managed to control the bike and reach the bottom safely but there was no way for him to get back to the trail. Two of our “ever ready” trail cutting crew went out with chainsaw in hand and managed to cut a path back to the bench road for him. Thanks Ray and Rocke.

The concession this year did a brisk business, offering up chilli dogs with all the fixings, cold drinks and chips. Thank you to Donna and her crew for another job well done. It takes many hands to put this all together and there were many volunteers, Phil, Barry, and Wes took care of keeping the kids safe and moving on their course, Bill helped out wherever he was needed and was ready if there was any first aid required, Jackie looked after the sign up with the help of Ann and did a great job keeping track of everybody and everything for us. A big thank-you to everyone else who came out and did whatever needed to be done during the course of the day, we couldn’t have done it without you.

Our built in loading ramp at the staging area provided the perfect podium for us to present the trophies and prizes, there was something for almost everyone. The five best poker hands determined first through fifth place for the adult riders and the kids all got medals along with trophies for the top three poker hands. There were lots of merchandise prizes and these were handed out to the top riders or by drawing tickets. Thanks to Hole Shot Racing for some great prizes and gift certificates and to Dave Seifert for adding some more prizes for the kids.

This Ride was Wally’s brainchild, he always thought that since we spent so much time and effort clearing and maintaining the trails, it was a shame to only use them once a year and thus the Chipmunk Creek Ride was created. This was our third year for the run and it is looking like a winner so far. Wally knew that he would not be able to carry the load this year so he made it easy for us by having a very complete and detailed list of everything that needed to be done right down to the last detail. Having Wally’s wife Marg and daughter Megan come out for the day with his grandsons was an added bonus for all and thank you Megan for being our trophy girl.

One fellow summed up the day best for us and I quote “Awesome ride - truly Awesome”

Thanks to all the riders that came and helped to make our ride a success. Hope to see you next year.
